Japanese Police Saber

The Japanese Police Saber was a distinguished sidearm carried by officers of the Imperial Japanese police force during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Designed to symbolize authority and discipline, it featured a sleek, curved blade reminiscent of traditional samurai swords, paired with a distinctive brass or nickel-plated hilt adorned with police insignia.

Unlike military swords, police sabers were primarily ceremonial but remained functional weapons when needed. Over time, many have been lost or damaged, making well-preserved examples increasingly scarce. This rarity, combined with their unique role in Japan’s law enforcement history, makes them highly sought after by collectors and historians alike.
