Shōwa-era Tantō in Black-Lacquer Aikuchi Koshirae

JB-1022

SOLD

A modest Shōwa-era tantō in a black-lacquer aikuchi mounting with brass mitsudomoe fittings — mounted, tang unexamined, offered unsigned.

A Shōwa-era tantō in a simple, well-matched aikuchi koshirae, that is, a guardless form, with the fuchi meeting the scabbard mouth directly and no tsuba. The saya is glossy black lacquer; the grip is a deeply ribbed black core dressed with brass mitsudomoe (triple-comma) menuki, a brass-rimmed mekugi, and a brass rope-rim fuchi, the kashira carrying the same triple-comma motif. A plain brass habaki seats the blade. A black braided sageo is tied to the saya; its tassel end is frayed. The drawn shot shows a shallow sori, a groove (hi) and a soft wave-pattern temper effect along the edge.

The blade has not been removed from its mounts, so the nakago has not been examined and any signature (mei) remains unseen. It is offered as unsigned and unverified.
