Silver habaki of the Kotō period, the blade collar that locks the sword within its saya and anchors the fittings.
A silver habaki signals either original high-status construction or deliberate upgrade — gold foil and silver were reserved for quality commissions. Kotō-period habaki (pre-1596) are identified by construction method: the fold seam placement, thickness, and how the base flare meets the hamachi and munemachi. As a standalone fitting, it documents the mounting tradition as much as the blade.
