Tachi by Suishinshi Masahide (水心子正秀)

JB-1003

SOLD

Tachi signed Suishinshi Masahide — the late-Edo smith who led the Shinshintō revival movement and championed a return to Kotō-period forging traditions.

Suishinshi Masahide (1750–1825) is one of the central figures of Shinshintō scholarship — his treatises, particularly Kentō Hihō and Tōken Jitsuyō Ron, set the technical and philosophical foundation for the late-Edo revival of traditional sword forging. Masahide trained many of the smiths who would define the early Shinshintō generation, and his blades carry significant scholarly interest in their own right.

This example was mounted in full dress koshirae with gold-inlaid fittings and a red lacquered saya — the formal officer-presentation style of the late Edo period.
