Iron tsuba made for military guntō mounting, retaining the characteristic retainer-strap hole of Imperial Japanese Army sword fittings.
The retainer-strap hole (ori-kaeshi ana) is diagnostic of guntō-pattern tsuba, distinguishing them from civilian or earlier military fittings. These pieces were functional rather than artistic commissions, though quality varied between contract manufacturers. Condition and completeness of the strap hardware affect historical interest.
